Nintendo Bans Live Streaming From Nintendo Creators Program

Nintendo has a long history of upsetting their YouTube community. Their newest rule for their Nintendo Creators Program seems to only continue that trend.

The Nintendo Creators Program launched in 2015 to give YouTube creators the chance to earn profit from their videos of Nintendo games. The program provides a relationship between Nintendo and YouTube channels which allows the ad revenue to be shared between the YouTuber and Nintendo provided that the YouTuber complies with Nintendo’s guidelines. Before this program was launched, Nintendo was taking in all the ad revenue generated by the channels that uploaded videos of their games. The Creators Program was a step in the right direction, but for obvious reasons it hasn’t been reputable.

As of today, YouTube content creators that are part of the program are no longer permitted to broadcast content on YouTube Live on the channel associated with the program. Partners have the choice of either cancelling their registration with the program or broadcast to another channel. The policy update was sent to partners via email yesterday.

The email can be seen below:

The updated guide to the program can be viewed here.
